Frederic Menguy Prints

1927 – 2007

Frederic Menguy was born in Paris in 1927. He attended the City of Paris evening classes to become an art teacher. Since 1956, he devoted all of his time to painting.

Frederic made his exhibition debut in 1957 at the Salon des Independents. The year 1964 saw the creation of his first lithographs. He has received several accolades in his long career: the 1968 Prix de la Critique at the St Placide Gallery, Paris and, in 1985, the Gran Prix Puvis de Chavannes at the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts (SNBA).

Between 1968 and 1979, Frederic worked exclusively for a gallery in Paris. From 1985 to 1993 he participated in the France-Japan itinerant exhibitions held in twenty Japanese towns. In 1990 came the Retrospective in Chateau de Val, and in 1991, the ‘French Art Now’ show in Washington. The following year he participated in both the ‘Europe Art’ in Geneva, and the Tokyo International Art Show.

Frederic’s work is displayed in museums around the world and his lithographs feature among the collections in the Sketching Room of the National Library of France. Having dedicated many years to the SNBA in helping to organise their annual Paris Salon, Frederic is now their Honorary Vice-President.

Frederic says that his paintings reflect his dreams, perhaps nostalgia for our childhood.
